The Hawaii Food & Wine Festival is all about incredible food, top chefs, and celebrating Hawaii’s local flavours. If you’re visiting Oahu and looking for a way to enjoy the island’s food scene, this festival is a great place to start.

Whether you’re a foodie or just curious about what makes Hawaiian cuisine unique, it’s an experience you’ll want to add to your plans.

What is the Hawaii Food & Wine Festival

Since 2011, this festival has brought together some of the best chefs from around the world. They come to celebrate Hawaii’s local ingredients and food traditions.

It’s more than just a food event – it’s a way to taste Hawaii’s history and culture. And it’s served alongside fresh seafood, tropical fruits, and produce grown right here in the islands.

There’s a mix of events, from cooking demos to farm-to-table dinners and wine pairings. You’ll also get a glimpse into Hawaiian culture through live music and hula. And it’s different every year.

Some events even give you opportunities to meet the chefs and artists behind the dishes. Some of these guys are so much fun!

When and Where

In 2025, the festival on Oahu will run from October 30 to November 2. There will be events at different venues around the island. Past spots have included Ko Olina Resort, Waikiki Beach, and the Hawai‘i Convention Center.

Each location offers something special. It may be ocean views or the energy of a downtown setting – it’s as much about the atmosphere as the food.

Here are a few past venues and what they had to offer:

• The Modern Honolulu: Near Waikiki, The Modern Honolulu is a ritzy hotel known for its modern design and incredible ocean views.
  
  During the festival, it hosts events like “Chopstix & Cocktails”. This is where you can enjoy Asian-inspired dishes paired with creative cocktails by international mixologists.
  
  The hotel’s stylish ambiance and proximity to the beach make it a popular spot.

• Halekulani Hotel: Located in the heart of Waikiki, Halekulani is an iconic luxury hotel. It’s known for its elegance and superb hospitality.
  
  The festival’s “Culinary Masters Gala” often takes place here. It features master chefs who prepare gourmet dishes and pair them with the finest wines.
  
  The hotel has such a peaceful setting, with views of Diamond Head and the Pacific Ocean. It has a sophisticated atmosphere for these exclusive dining experiences.
  
  I find it a little too proper, but it is stunning.

• Hilton Hawaiian Village: This is one of Waikiki’s largest resorts. The Village has enormous grounds and a variety of dining options.
  
  Festival events like “From Farm to Table: A Makahiki Festival” have been held here. It celebrates Hawaii’s harvest season with dishes prepared by celebrity chefs.
  
  The resort’s beachfront location and lush gardens make it a favourite for me, and it’s such a happy place during the festival!

• Hawaii Convention Center: Right near Ala Moana Center, the Hawaii Convention Center is a very modern facility that hosts some large-scale events. During the festival, it serves as the venue for “Corks & Forks”.
  
  This one showcases wines from the Pacific Coast along with gourmet tastings from well-known chefs. The center’s large halls and rooftop terrace have lots of space for mingling and noshing.

• Ko Olina Resort: On Oahu’s west side, Ko Olina Resort is best known for its beautiful lagoons and luxury accommodations. The festival’s grand finale, “Beauty & the Feast,” is often held here.
  
  You’ll find craft cocktails, specialty beers, and dishes from notable chefs. The resort’s stunning setting and sunset views over the ocean are the perfect backdrop.

What to Expect at the Festival

The festival has something for everyone, with signature events like:

• Farm-to-Table Dinners: Multi-course meals created by well-known chefs, using fresh local Oahu ingredients.
• Cooking Demonstrations: Learn a few tricks from chefs as they share their techniques. These can be impressive when you get home!
• Wine Tastings: Sample wines from around the world, paired with Hawaiian-inspired dishes.
